Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol used to encode the information exchanged between a server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to secure the information which customers submit on your Internet site - a login page, a payment page if you run an Internet store, and so on. Any content they type in in any box on the site shall be submitted safely and securely to the server, so their login or payment data will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. Normally, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be installed, which means the overall cost for your web presence shall be higher. While this may not be a problem for a larger company, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small online shop that does not generate big income if additional money should be spent. That is the reason why we've taken advantage of an extension referred to as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Shared Website Hosting

As we offer SSL certificates with our shared website hosting plans, you can quickly secure your website and use a shared IP address with just a few clicks. The option shall be available during the order process, thus if you have a dedicated IP, you could use it, but if you don't have one and you don't want to pay for this type of a service, you can use the shared IP, which has been configured especially for SSLs. The certificate will work in the very same way as if it had a dedicated IP address and the sole difference shall be that if someone tries to open the IP address as a URL, they will not see your Internet site. As our system has an auto-configuration option, the SSL shall be installed automatically once it's issued, so you will not need to do anything on your end after you approve it. In this way, you can have a secure and reliable website without spending extra money for that.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Any SSL certificate could be used with our specifically configured shared IPs, so if you have a semi-dedicated hosting account, you can use this option with just a couple of mouse clicks when you install a certificate you obtain through us or through another vendor. For the SSLs that we offer you could also take advantage of another function and have our system set everything up for you. This way the moment you approve the SSL, the shared IP will be set for the specific domain or subdomain and the certificate shall be installed with no action required on your end, so any data that site visitors submit on your website will be protected. The SSL will function in the same exact way regardless if it is set on a shared or a dedicated IP address and the 1 thing that is different between the two setups is that inputting the shared IP address as a URL in a web browser won't open your website.
